IMOGEN ALABASTER
Landscapes
Since my childhood I have adored painting the sky. I used to paint the changing views from my desk in my bedroom window. I still get comfort from painting landscapes. They feel therapeutic and calming.
My grandmother lived in Cornwall, her house looked out onto the Atlantic coast, with rugged cliffs and incredible sea views. My sister and I would spend several weeks with her every summer. 'Grandma's Beach' - Widemouth Bay - became my Happy Place, somewhere I return to in my thoughts, regularly.
The moon has always been important to me. 'The same moon shines down on all of us'. My mother told me these reassuring words when I first travelled without her on a school trip. Since her death in 2009 the moon seems to appear whenever I am feeling particularly lost, its soft face glowing as if to say everything will be alright.
